The Spring sports season is coming to a close & we made sure to celebrate our graduating students & their families! The SMS co-ed Varsity soccer team played their final game on Sun., coming up in a 3-3 tie against St. Amelia's. Members of the Class of 2024 posed for a photo together and presented their parents with a rose, as is SMS tradition. This year 19 SMS middle school students will be taking the NYS Regents exam in Algebra, and 14 will be taking the NYS Regents exam in Living Environment. SMS is proud to offer NYS High School Regents courses in both Mathematics & Science.
Taking a high school Regents class in middle school can allow students to earn credit towards high school graduation requirements & free up their schedule for more advanced or elective courses later on. The advanced coursework of a Regents class entails more challenging curriculum & sets middle school students on an accelerated learning pathway. Overall, it reflects a student's readiness for higher-level coursework and can provide significant academic advantages in their educational journey.

St. Mary School had some fresh faces in the office today... meet our new "Principals for the Day", the Barwell sisters! Mrs. D'Angelo put the ladies right to work this morning, assisting her with various tasks like counting how many hotdogs will be needed for the upcoming school picnic, supervising a water balloon game, doing teacher observations, & leading a fire drill AND a lockdown drill! The sisters enjoyed a delicious breakfast from Tim Horton's, and lunch from Campobello's courtesy of Mrs. D'Angelo. Thank you to the Barwell family for their generous donation at the 2024 Spring for Success Auction Gala to win this unique experience for their daughters! Despite the soggy conditions, our ACRCC Family processed in public adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in a Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession on Sunday afternoon; stopping at four beautiful altars for prayer and finishing in the Our Lady of Peace Church. Thank you to Fr. Walt, Dan and his team for organizing and hosting us.
It was GAME ON for SMS boys & their VIPs on Sat. night! The boys were treated to a "sandbox" style event in the SMS gym with snacks, sno-cones, cotton candy, & video-game themed games & activities. After the boys completed each checkpoint with their Mom or VIP, they received a special prize, and members of the Class of 2024 in attendance presented their Moms with some loot! Yesterday afternoon "Team Dolan" & "Team Crouch" faced off in a friendly game of basketball in the SMS gym. Middle school families had the opportunity to bid on this unique teacher experience in the recent Spring for Success online silent auction.
On Team Dolan, Jackson (16 points), Brayden C. (12 points), and Mr. Dolan (10 points) all hit three pointers during the game, while Jack (4 points) & Henry (6 points) also contributed to the final score.
Team Crouch battled back with the following point totals: Noah (4 points), Brendan (8 points), Michael (6 points), Aiden (4 points), & Mr. Crouch (10 points) .
Team Dolan declared victory in the end - 48-32. Sammy and Braeden B. were the referees & called a great game! A special thank you goes out to the Sendlak & Valentine families who won these experiences for their students & their friends! 🏀🏆

Yesterday evening several SMS students & their families, along with Mrs. Genovese & Mrs. D'Angelo attended the Diocese of Buffalo's Character Award Mass held at St. Amelia Church in Tonawanda. Students who received diocesan character awards throughout this school year, as well as Golden Apple teachers were honored. Bishop Michael W. Fisher celebrated Mass, and refreshments were available afterwards.
