Recently at St. Mary's weekend Masses, members of our SMS Class of 2026 spoke about how SMS has impacted their lives. Let's hear what 8th grader, Henry S. had to say:
"Hello, my name is Henry. I am here today to tell you about my time at St. Mary’s. I have been a student here since I was 3 in Montessori Pre-K. During my time here I have participated in many activities and other school events.
I have had the opportunity to play a variety of sports during my time at St. Mary's. Starting in Kindergarten, I was on the swim, bowling, and track teams. Starting in 1st grade, I have been on our St. Mary’s soccer team each spring. I have been a member of our basketball team since 3rd grade. I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to play so many different sports, and have enjoyed being able to play with my classmates.
There are also many other activities that I have had the opportunity to participate in, other than just sports. I was a member of the school band, playing the drums. I have also participated in many of our Drama Club productions. My favorite club that I have been involved in is our Middle School Chess Club.
St. Mary’s has also provided a strong academic foundation, that I feel has prepared me well for high school next year. I am currently taking Regents Biology and Regents Algebra, which will help me to progress into advanced classes in high school. I have also had the opportunity to participate in the Diocesan Math Competition. One of my favorite parts about this school is the small class sizes which have allowed me to get individual attention from our caring and supportive teachers.
My favorite part of being a student at St. Mary’s is how everything is always faith centered. We begin our day every morning with a school wide prayer led by the eighth graders, and end our day by saying the Hail Mary together. One of my favorite experiences at St. Mary’s is our yearly Living Stations of the Cross production, that fourth grade presents during Lent. Afterward, the whole school gathers in the school gym to participate in games that are designed and run by the middle school students. This is always something I look forward to because it brings students of all grades together, to pray together, and then celebrate together. Keeping God at the center of our school and social activities is something I feel is very important.
Being focused on God is something that I think is very important, and is a trait that I want to bring with me to St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, where I am planning on going to high school next year.
Thank you for your time."
