There is still time to contribute to our "Help for the Homeless" post-Thanksgiving food & supply drive! PLEASE BRING ITEMS TO SCHOOL BY TOMORROW, TUES., NOV. 26th
Homelessness makes daily living challenging - everyday activities such as eating & maintaining basic hygiene become difficult tasks to accomplish. As a school family we are endeavoring to help the homeless to meet their basic needs after the hot Thanksgiving meal of turkey and stuffing is over. For more information on the items we are asking for, click here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WylN50h09Hgeew7d85s7Oq1sjpLW-fQo/view
“When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous”. Luke 14:13-14

Mrs. Picone's 1st graders are making sure there's no fowl play when it comes to punctuation! Students practiced adding question marks or periods to sentences based on whether the sentence was asking or telling something. Great job #grade1! #punctuationpractice #properpunctuation

Grade 5 students recently completed these beautiful self-portraits after reading the novel "Wonder", by R. J. Palacio. Wonder tells the story of 10 year old Augie's first year going to school. Born with a rare craniofacial condition that necessitated multiple major surgeries, Augie was homeschooled for much of his childhood. The book explores the themes of the difficulty of kindness, independence & growing up, status & bullying, & developing one's identity.
Thank you Mrs. Genovese (Art) & Mrs. Laderer (grade 5) for facilitating this wonderful cross-curricular project!

Corn you believe it? Grade 2 has completed their 2nd book report of the year already! Students were able to read & report on books of their choice using this cute turkey-themed framework. Great job to all of Mrs. Wojtaszek 's hard working students! #bookreports #grade2 #KNOWLEDGE

And the Oscar goes to...
..."The Great Turkey Race" by Mrs. Picone's first grade class!
The class performed their first reader's theater and did an outstanding job!

Mrs. Genovese has been weaving Native American Heritage Month into her Art classes this November! Native American weaving is a centuries-old art form that represents tribal histories & is a fundamental way for Native American tribes to express strength & courage. Weavings often include symbols that represent war, struggle, & strength. Colors can indicate parts of the country where the weaving came from and if it was woven by a man or woman.

Mrs. Baker's 4th graders went into "feast mode" to create these turkey puzzles & color turkeys using multiplication & division. What a great way to practice math and keep learning fun! #Math #turkeys #multiply #divide #grade4

🐼🍪🧁Grade 2's bake sale was a #giant success! They raised over $200 to adopt a Giant Panda one snack at a time today. There are still some snacks leftover, if students want to bring in their dollar bills tomorrow they can still visit the grade 2 classroom to purchase a treat!

Miss Kirwan's third graders have been learning about turkeys, & thinking about all the things they're #thankful for this #November - even things they're thankful for in each other! Our small class sizes at SMS allow for individualized attention, and a true #family atmosphere.

Miss Kirwan's 3rd graders have been working hard in #math class to show the relationship between #multiplication & #division using fact families! They're mastering using manipulative strategies to represent the communicative property & representing multiplication with arrays.

Mrs. Wojtaszek's 2nd graders have been learning about maps, and created "edible maps" of the St. Mary's campus that they of course gobbled right up!

We may all be different fish, but in this school we swim together! Check out this beautiful display created by Mrs. Maria Anderson, our Catholic Charities of WNY Social Worker here at SMS! Students were invited to each color a fish to add to the display. #unity #swimtogether

There are #TURKEYS hiding in our hallways! Miss Gon's Kindergarten class is helping turkeys evade the oven this Thanksgiving by dressing them up in disguises! Each student chose how to disguise their turkey, gave it a name, & wrote a description of their disguise. Their creative ideas included a hockey player, ballerina, bee, princess, Harry Potter, unicorn, Barbie, policeman, fox, mummy & bag of popcorn! We think these clever costumes are going to help the turkeys continue to "gobble gobble" well past next week! Which one is your favorite?
