Discover!

  1. Priests act in the person of Christ, in Persona Christi capitas, and have a special focus on the ministry of the Word and of the sacraments. They go through years of formation in a seminary to study philosophy and theology, grow intellectually, spiritually, and pastorally, and embrace the vows that they will make.
  2. Watch and discuss as a family – What are the degrees of the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
  3. Complete the following activity sheets and discuss as a family: Holy Orders and/or Three Types of Ordained Ministry (use this link to help complete this activity sheet)
  4. A priest does a lot more than just Sunday Mass; he also acts as an administrator by making sure the parish is taking care of its resources, working with employees, going out into the community to be a voice for the Church, and always striving to lead people closer to Christ. Let’s take a glimpse into the Life as a Priest and the journey of discernment.
  5. Ordination happens as part of the Sacrament of Holy Orders; it is an action that sets a man apart for the priesthood or diaconate. Watch and discuss as a family – Sacrament 101: What Ordination Means.

Live!

  • If a young man is discerning the vocation of Holy Orders, it is important to keep discerning God’s will and be open to whatever He may be leading you. Even if we don’t feel the call to priesthood or consecrated life, we can continue to serve God in many ways.
  • How do you think you can serve God?

Pray!

End your lesson with a prayer
  • Begin your prayer with the Sign of the Cross
  • Pray from Scripture – Read 2Timothy 1:6-7 (CYB-O pg 1716 or CYB-T pg 1611)

Dear Loving and Generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You. Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we experience it today. Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future. Amen
