This Tuesday, January 5th, is the Feast Day of St. John Neumann, the spiritual founder of St. Mary’s Parish. To commemorate the day, we will be setting up a small shrine in the chapel after the 7:00 a.m. Mass and will have his relics available for veneration and private prayer through 8:00 p.m.  All are invited to come at anytime during the day to pray.

“John Nepomucene Neumann came to the United States from Bohemia in 1836.  The beginning of the ‘German Catholic Parish on the Transit,’ named after the road, began with Father Neumann administering the Holy Sacraments to the few Catholic families living here.  All references to the church at this time were called ‘The Transit.’  Mass was said at area farms and for a short time at a log cabin church.  Father Neumann left the area in 1840 and is recognized as the founder of Our Parish.  He was the first American Priest and Bishop to be canonized a saint on June 19, 1977.”
