Tom and Tori Are Moving On

St. Mary’s is Grateful to Tom O’Brien and Tori Egleston for their Service to the Youth of Our Parish

Tom O’Brien has been an Assistant Youth Minister at St. Mary Church Swormville for over five years and Tori Egleston joined the Youth Ministry Team three years ago.  At the end of the month, they are both moving on to new chapters in their lives.  Tori plans to attend SUNY Brockport to earn her Masters Degree in Social Work and Tom will be finishing up his Electrical Engineering and Technology Degree at SUNY Erie Community College.

During their tenure on the Youth Ministry Team, they have been open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance as they strove to use their particular skill sets to create the best experience possible for middle and high school students and young adults of St. Mary’s.  Tori thoroughly enjoyed working with the team to restructure the Confirmation retreat. She and Tom assisted in creating and implementing a safe interactive environment infused with energy!  Feedback from the youth of the parish has been very positive and has led to more students wanting to join the RC (retreat crew).   Interacting with participants in Teen Bible Study and the Second Sunday Young Adult Group were highlights of their ministry because of the sharing that takes place.

Tom grew up helping out at St. Mary’s and became an active participant in youth group activities; it was a natural extension to accept the position of Assistant Youth Director.  Tom’s favorite part of his youth ministry has been making so many connections with St. Mary’s parishioners of all ages.  In particular, he enjoys the entire Confirmation process and loves it when someone with whom he has interacted says, “Remember when…”.

Tori was looking for a stronger connection to her faith and wanted to assist others in doing the same – youth ministry at St. Mary’s was a perfect fit.  She has grown in her faith as well as an awareness of the methods that work best for her continued leaning.  Tori is looking forward to using her faith and Catholic values in her career as a Social worker.

Tom and Tori would like to thank their parents for being great role models of Christian service to others, the entire Faith Formation Team for their support, and St. Mary’s Faith Community for supporting the youth of the parish.

At the end of the interview, their parting comment was, “We hope we gave you as much as you gave us.”

Thank you, Tori and Tom!  Good luck, God bless, and Mother Mary watch over you!
