  • Watch this….   Ignite your Catholic FaithWhat are the Marks of the Church? Parents, discuss with your pre-teen/teen the following: According to the video, what does the word ‘catholic’ mean? How can you live an apostolic life?
  • Any good building stands strong on pillars that lift it up and secure it in place. Our church stands on four pillars also known as marks that describe who we are and ensure that we remain strong.

So, what are The Four Marks? They are:  ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC, APOSTOLIC Let’s learn more about each one:

1. ONE – Because God is ONE. Jesus prayed that all his followers would be united to Him (united in love)

> Read Ephesians 4:4-6 (CYB-O pg. 1671 or CYB-T pg. 1570). Write the word ONE next to these verses.

2. HOLY –  Because God is GREAT. Jesus shared his life and holiness. The Holy Spirit helps and guides us to live holy lives.

> Read Luke 1:49 (CYB-O pg. 1416 or CYB-T pg.1338). Write the word HOLY next to this verse.

3. CATHOLIC –  Because the word catholic means UNIVERSAL. All are welcome.

> Read Matthew 28:19 (CYB-O pg. 1373 or CYB-T pg.1297). Write the word CATHOLIC next to this verse.

4. APOSTOLIC –  Because the Church was founded by the APOSTLES. Jesus sent his Apostles to continue his Father’s mission, and he gave them authority and power. The Apostles lived with Jesus and were taught by him.

> Read Luke 10:16 (CYB-O pg. 1441 or CYB-T pg.1360) and Ephesians 2:20  (CYB-O pg.1670 or CYB-T pg. 1569). Write the word APOSTOLIC next to this verse.

  • After Jesus’ Resurrection, he commissioned the disciples, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
  • Take Action! Share your Faith! –  Parents discuss the following with your pre/teens or teens:

Share by example: Share your faith by making choices that reflect your faith, especially in the way you treat others. You will not be perfect, but strive to let others see Christ through you.

Share by invitation:  Invite a friend or friends to church or youth group (Connection-Gr 6-8 or Impact- Gr HS), and share with them your reason for going.

Share by Witness:  Give a talk for a retreat or youth group gathering, or have a conversation with someone who you think might be open to hearing about why your faith matters to you.
