Prayer – Young Family Lesson 2018-2019

Focus: The liturgy is the main form of prayer for the Church. Mass = perfect Prayer!

Before you begin – INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARENTS
  • To complete this lesson, you will need to refer to pages in the Catholic Children’s Bible (CCB) and/or Celebrating Eucharist Mass Book for Children (CE) as indicated.
  • After reviewing the lesson, you may find it necessary to explain the information to your children in language they can better understand. Please contact the FF Office at 716-688-0599 or email familyfaith@stmaryswormville.org if you would like assistance in modifying an activity to better suite your family’s needs.

Pray!

Begin the lesson with prayer –
  • Begin prayer with the Sign of the Cross (CCB pg. 1992)
  • Say the The Gloria prayer (CE pg.10-11) together as a family or listen to the prayer in song (and sing along!)
  • End prayer with the Sign of the Cross

Discover!

  • When we go to Mass, the liturgy includes many forms of prayer – PACTPraise (we praise and adore God), Ask (we ask that God hears our special requests) , Contrition (we confess, we say we’re sorry and ask for forgiveness), Thanksgiving (we give thanks to God)
  1. Print out and complete the Prayers at Mass Activity Sheet as a family. (NOTE: Parents, you may need to modify this activity with younger children by only highlighting the prayers found at Mass – found in the middle column. You may choose to challenge your children by adding the Bible references in the last column which may require more parental guidance.)

Live!

  • Take the CE book with you each time you attend Mass and encourage your children to learn the responses and sign along to the songs (found in the hymnals)! Remind your children that at Mass we are in a PACT with God!

Pray!

End the lesson with prayer –
  • Begin prayer with the Sign of the Cross
  • Say the Holy, Holy, Holy prayer (CE pg. 26) together as a family or listen to the prayer in song (and sing along!) NOTE: start the prayer song at 00:50 to avoid the intro spoke in another language.
  • End prayer with the Sign of the Cross
