Lesson –

Five Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary

  • Suggestion: Look up and bookmark the bolded Bible passages before you begin the lesson.
  • Parents: For each of the five mysteries, with your teen, read the Bible passage, share in the discussion for each mystery, and pray.

1.  Glorious Mystery #1 — The Resurrection (Read the Bible passage, Discuss, Pray)

  • Bible — Read Matthew 28:1-10
  • Discuss — To whom did Jesus first appear after He had risen? What did the angel tell Mary?
  • Rosary — Place the rosary in your hands and find the 1st large bead where this mystery would be announced. Jesus rises three days after he died and was buried. We celebrate this on Easter Sunday. When do we celebrate the Resurrection? Think of a time when you struggled with a problem or concern and after a time, this problem or concern is not as big. What changes? Do all big problems last forever? Can you see that big problems don’t last forever? Can you recognize that each day is a fresh start?

 2.  Glorious Mystery #2 — The Ascension –  (Read the Bible passage, Discuss, Pray)

  • BibleRead Luke 24:50-53 The Ascension
  • Discuss — Jesus ascended into heaven. We too, can follow Him to heaven. What does it take to get to heaven? – the million dollar question!!!
  • Rosary — Place the rosary in your hands and find the 1st large bead where this mystery would be announced. Jesus was reunited with His Father in heaven. Pray for your family and friends that have passed that they too are with God in heaven.

 3.  Glorious Mystery #3The Descent of the Holy Spirit –  (Read the Bible passage, Discuss, Pray)

  • Bible: Read Acts 2:1-13 and Catholic Connection CYB pg. 1441
  • Discuss — Jesus promised that he’d empower the disciples through the Holy Spirit. This promise was fulfilled at Pentecost other wise know as the birthday of the Church! When you are discouraged, sad or even fearful about something, do you ask the Holy Spirit for help? Try it! ‘Lean on’ the Holy Spirit daily!
  • Rosary — Place the rosary in your hands and find the 1st large bead where this mystery would be announced. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples. It gave them new found abilities and courage. It can make all the difference in your world too.Thank the Holy Spirit for the strength and courage that you are given.

 4.  Glorious Mystery #4 — The Assumption – (Discuss and Pray)

  • Discuss: The Assumption refers to what happened to Mary after she died. Her body and soul went directly to heaven where she was praised and glorified!
    • From the Life Teen Blog on the Assumption of Mary: ‘One of the things that sets us apart as Catholics from other Christian denominations is that we have a rich understanding of Mary and a tradition of giving her the honor she deserves. She can teach us a lot through her example of virtue and her special role within the Church. Pray with Mary and she will lead you into a far deeper relationship with Her Son than you could ever achieve by your own direction.’
      • If you’d like to delve a little further, check out this blog.
  • Rosary — Place the rosary in your hands and find the 1st large bead where this mystery would be announced. The New Testament describes Mary filled with the Holy Spirit and is noted as the first and foremost disciple of Christ. Pray that like Mary, you will be filled with the Holy Spirit and share in Christ’s glory in heaven some day.

 5.  Glorious Mystery #5 — The Coronation (Discuss and Pray)

  • Discuss — God crowns Mary the Queen of Heaven and she becomes our heavenly mother who watches over us with love and care. Click here to see a short clip about the Coronation of Mary. We honor our ‘heavenly mother’. Do you ‘honor’ your (earthly) mother? Sure we do this on Mothers day, but what about in our daily lives? How can you show honor to your mother daily?
  • Rosary — Place the rosary in your hands and find the 1st large bead where this mystery would be announced. Jesus gave us the gift of His mother ‘Queen Mother’. In honoring her you also glorify Christ by imitating Him and accepting the gift He has given us in Mary.

Live!

  • Say a prayer each day asking the Holy Spirit to help guide you throughout your day.
  • Pray a decade of the Rosary each day. Focus specifically on imagining one of the Glorious Mysteries and asking Jesus to renew in you, a strong faith in Him.
  • Attend Mass on August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary (a holy day of obligation).
  • Check out the May Crowning on May 1st
