Prayer – Teen Family Lesson 2018-2019

Focus: The liturgy is the main form of prayer for the Church. Mass = perfect Prayer!

  • To complete this lesson, you will need to refer to pages in the Catholic Youth Bible orange colored edition (CYB-O) OR Catholic Youth Bible  teal colored edition (CYB-T) as indicated.
  • After reviewing the lesson, you may find it necessary to explain the information to your children in language they can better understand. Please contact the FF Office at 716-688-0599 or email if you would like assistance in modifying an activity to better suite your family’s needs.

Begin your lesson with prayer –
  • Begin prayer with the Sign of the Cross

Loving Father, we gather together in your name to learn more about you.  Help us to strengthen our relationship with you through prayer.  Amen!

  • End prayer with the Sign of the Cross

When we go to Mass, the liturgy includes many forms of prayer – PACTPraise (we praise and adore God), Ask (we ask that God hears our special requests), Contrition (we confess, we say we’re sorry and ask for forgiveness), Thanksgiving (we give thanks to God)

  1. The origins of all of our prayers at Mass can be found in scripture. Print out and complete the Prayers at Mass Activity Sheet
  2. Check out Catholic Connection in CYB-O pg. 286 or CYB-T pg. 267. Highlight or underline the four parts of the Mass. What happens during each of these parts?

  • Challenge yourself to take time out of your day to talk with God in prayer.
  • Before the Mass begins, say a prayer to keep the distractions of the outside world away so you can keep your focus on God during the hour you will spend with Him at Mass.
  • Here’s a different perspective on the Mass for you to enjoy! Mass Fitness

End your lesson with prayer –
  • Begin prayer with the Sign of the Cross

Lord, thank you for helping me learn more about you.  Guide me with the Holy Spirit to have a closer relationship with you each day.

  • End your prayer with the Sign of the Cross and loudly proclaim ‘AMEN!’
