Our "local" church
Posted on May 03 2010 by Father Yetter
Here I am ordained almost 37 years and life has changed in US, world and the Catholic Church. Sometimes we get upset with what goes on in Washington or the Vatican, but our life is local - where we are living. As a priest, the Church has been what the parish is doing to build up God's kingdom - how we help people in their daily lives. That is what keeps me going.
The Catholic Church is a "Bible Based" Church

If you didn't see my artcile in the BEACON newsletter mailed to everyone's home, I wrote that the Catholic Church is a Bible based church. Some people don't think we are. Bible is read every day at Mass and prayers of priests and religious. Some of our teachings come from tradition- the faith of the believing people over the years. But we are based in the Bible put together by St. Jerome and Pope Damacene in the 4th century.
Give Yourself the Gift of Forgiveness

One of the teens just did a poster- saying "15 minutes reading the Bible gives you 15 minutes less in the confessional."
There is some truth to that. Lent is a great time for reflecting upon our lives what we are doing and what we are not. We do it as Catholics in the sacrament of Penance which we celebrate here March 29 at 7 p.m. with extra priests present. Also March 27 at 3 -3:45 p.m. and March 31 at 6 p.m. Stop in if you can.
